Microsoft demonstrated its next version of the Windows at a preview event at Computex 2011 which is expected to come out around 2012. This latest version of the Windows OS is being internally called as Windows 8 at Microsoft, and it claimed to work on both x86 and ARM platforms.
The demo showed that the Os is designed to be touch-centric, but can as well be used by a keyboard and mouse. It enables fast launching of the applications from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the current Windows Start menu with a scalable and customizable full-screen view of apps.
The OS also includes live tiles with notifications that help you by showing always up-to-date information from your apps, while enabling fluid, natural switching between running apps. The apps and programs will be designed for work in one of two environments – traditional Windows 7 UI, or a tile-based Metro UI-styled Start screen with Live Tile apps and feeds, based on HTML5, JavaScript and CSS.
One of the additional features is that a user can switch between the environments instantly, as well as have a split-screen interface, with Win 7 UI and Metro UI side by side.
It also includes a ‘Always on, always connected’ mode for ARM devices, that allows instant wake-up from sleep, and while also allowing t you to use the apps that are constantly connected to the web.
