LG Revolution

The LG Revolution has been delayed for a little while (okay, so a long while now) but the phone is finally slated to hit Verizon on May 26th. That’s good news for you folks who want cutting edge tech capable of LTE speed with a little Android brainwashing.

The LG Revolution is a 4.3 inch handheld that comes equipped with an 800 X 480 touch screen. There’s a front and rear facing camera (5MP) as well as dedicated menu, home, and search keys built right in. Inside the phone sports a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 16GB SD card.
The Revolution will be running on Android 2.2 when it launches and have Microsoft’s Google alternative, Bing, fully integrated. Users will also be able to sync their phones with their Netflix account and stream movies and other digital media right to their mobile. The phone will even be able to handle HD content. Thankfully there’s an HDMI port built right in for your convenience.
Of course the phone will be 4G LTE capable (so keep a close eye on your battery life). And of course, like with other LTE phones you can turn the LTE radio off but what’s the point of harnessing all that speed?
There’s no official word on pricing yet but with solid-yet-not-spectacular spec’s like these I wouldn’t suspect that the Revolution will break the bank.
Unfortunately neither Verizon nor LG has official information on their sites so keep checking back for more.

Windows Phone 'Mango' will be used on first Nokia WP devices

Nokia has noted Microsoft's announcement of the new Windows Phone 7 (aka Mango) with word that the software being demonstrated today will be the one we'll see on the first Nokia with Windows Phone device. That's singular, not plural, indicating that Nokia will likely start off with one phone and work its way up. It also slightly contracts the road map for the first handset born from the Microkia partnership, though Nokia's statement makes sure not to make any promises about when said device will show up. Finally, we find the "Nokia with Windows Phone" phrasing somewhat peculiar, don't be surprised if you see it turn into a branding strategy for Nokia's smartphones going forward. Here's the relevant statement, straight out of Finland:
"Today Microsoft has announced the key new ingredients of the latest 'Mango' release of the Windows Phone operating system. This is the software that will be used on the first Nokia with Windows Phone device, and so should be of keen interest to Nokia-watchers everywhere."
Update: Microsoft just concluded its keynote with word that it already has Nokia phones running Mango in its labs. And none have leaked out yet, amazing!

Update 2: We were just contacted by a Nokia representative indicating that there was a mistake in the original announcement the company distributed. It wasn't supposed to read device, it was supposed to be devices. More than one!

Update 3: Nokia's Executive VP of Smart Devices, Jo Harlow, has told Forbes that the forthcoming "small portfolio" of phones -- which are currently on target for a 2011 release -- won't look like the renderings we've seen before. Not only that, we may see a CDMA Nokia handset at some point, as the company is "working in that direction."

Garmin's First Touchscreen GPS Watch.

The release of the Garmin Forerunner 610 is a milestone for the world’s premiere GPS device manufacturer. It’s a wearable “watch”-style” GPS unit with a touchscreen. Now instead of trying to remember which button does what on your tiny little GPS device all you have to do is follow the prompts on the screen and give it a tap with the tip of your finger. There is no other watch for runners, or cyclists, like this anywhere else in the world because it’s the world’s first touch screen navigation GPS watch and heart rate monitor. The excitement has reached fever pitch for the endurance athletic community and nanotechnology has finally brought us the Dick Tracy watch, and it’s for real and will be available in early-May.
This device may just be the perfect machine for runners simply because it cuts down on the time and frustration of trying to use a GPS while on the move. You won’t have to worry about dancing over any manholes while concentrating on your unit.

THE REAL ADVANTAGE TO TOUCH SCREEN

The speed with which you can navigate with touch screen is far faster than any watch that requires button navigation and the screen displays are the most highly customized displays available anywhere. When you combine these highly unique features with the new Training Effect, that helps optimize your training load, and the new Virtual Racer, that allows you to race previous bests, then you’ve got all the ingredients of a success story in the making.
Indeed, Garmin has released more fully-integrated GPS watches than any other manufacturer and many manufacturers are still using additional external sensors to provide their GPS navigation. Squire says, “The accuracy, sensitivity, and features of the Garmin GPS watches has done nothing but improve from generation to generation.” He adds, “We are now about eight years into the GPS phenomena and the technology is getting good – very good.” He pulls out a map created last summer by a runner in San Diego and you can see which sidewalk the runner is on and when he crosses the street.

STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU BUY A GPS WATCH

The funny thing is that once you start using this watch for one sport, you find yourself bringing it along for everything. A good case in point, the Heart Rate Watch Company’s bike team members brought their Garmin Edge 800 touch screen bike computers in their pockets for skiing, hunting, snowshoeing and a variety of other outdoor activities all winter long. As Squire says, “With the CityNav maps, my wife will take my bike computer so she gets turn-by-turn directions to her real estate appraisals, which makes me chuckle because I bought it for biking.” In fact, one member of their bike team used it to find his way back to the car in the wee morning hours from deep in the forest and said that without it they could have spent the night.
The Garmin Forerunner 610 will create highly detailed maps. Once your data is downloaded to Garmin Connect software you can see both detailed maps and elevation profiles. You can drag an icon to the top of a hill to see all of your data frozen at a particular moment in time. Better still, you can move the icon one-quarter mile past the peak of a summit to see how you recovered from the effort.
The Forerunner 610 will come in two versions, one with a Garmin soft chest strap and one without the strap, which is for previous owners of Garmin products. Both versions come with a charging clip and USB wall adapter for fast charging, as well as a USB data transfer stick that will move all of your data to Garmin Connect software. The price for the complete bundle is $399.99 and the price for the bundle without the chest strap is $349.99
Additional accessories for the Garmin Forerunner 610 include an optional cadence sensor for cycling and a carrying case.

FINAL CONCLUSIONS:
The new Garmin Forerunner 610 is likely going to be the biggest fitness product launch for outdoor athletes in all of 2011 and the timing could not be better because the weather is breaking and it is time to get outside.

Some Sneaky Xbox Tricks

So you already have a great time on your Xbox, but what if you could squeeze even more entertainment out of it? Have a look at these tricks and tips to see if something interests you.

Play your own music during games.
Even in non 360 games you can get your own music to play during a game. Put the music on before the game is loaded and it will carry on as you play. This is a good way to add atmosphere or simply to have a laugh by playing something completely inappropriate.

Two screens at once.
If you have one of the models that comes with a component/composite dual video cable then you can get the rather cool trick of putting your images onto two television screens at the same time. Put the yellow composite cable in one telly and the red, green and blue component cables into the other. Now put it to Standard Definition and away you go with double the fun.

Set up music madness displays.
When music is playing press X and you'll get lifted into the sort of crazy geometric world that always seems to make music sound better. You can then use the controllers to mess about with things.

Write an Xbox blog.
What, how and why? It's actually very easy, as all you need to do is go to www.360voice.com and set yourself up to get the machine to tell the world what you are playing these days.

Fix the Xbox 365 video setting.
If you switch from screen to screen and then need to reset the video setting on the Xbox you can do this by taking out any discs and switching the console off. Then you switch it on with a pad and hold down Y as it boots up. Hold down the right button and the video settings will revert to the original default ones.

Play your Xbox 360 online without paying.
You can do this using the XLink Kai app which goes on your network through your PC and lets you get stuck in to quality multiplayer games without spending a penny. Just try to avoid playing people who live too far away, as you will get kicked off if you do due to a Microsoft ping restriction on the network.

Remove media file restrictions.
The piece of software called Tversity can be added to your PC on your network and then be used to scan your media folders. This will let you watch any type of file and you can even watch YouTube movies on your Xbox this way too.

Angry Birds Franchise Hits 200 Millionth Download

It only seems like yesterday that Rovio were celebrating the 100 millionth download of their blockbuster, Angry Birds. Since then the franchise has grown somewhat with online editions, seasonal upgrades and of course the Spring hit that was (and still is) Angry Birds Rio.

These additions have allowed the brand to smash the 200 million download mark and its showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

The Angry Birds franchise started life on the iPhone, since then it has made the leap to Android, Blackberry and Nokia handsets. Apps have appeared on the Mac app store and even on Facebook. Despite this market saturation it seems there is still growth to be gained from Angry Birds.

In fact Rovio has spilled the beans for future plans of expansion, in a statement they said they are, "busy [creating] a social game around Angry Birds, expanding to new areas of entertainment business, and preparing for more growth throughout 2011.” This statement fits in well with its previous movement online, both website based and of course on Facebook.

What would you like to happen with the Angry Bird games, do you think there really is still room for growth?
